Tuesday, March 21, 2017 marks the 12th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day.

The Great Big Crunch

On Thursday, March 9th, all staff and students at OLA  participated in “The Great Big Crunch”, an annual event to celebrate local food and healthy eating in a loud and fun way.  Everyone received a shiny red apple and at 2:30pm we joined thousands of other schools as we counted down together and took a synchronized bite into crunchy fresh locally grown, healthy Ontario apples.   ... A Successful Jump Rope for Heart

Congratulations to the OLA school community for surpassing the goal set for our Jump Rope for Heart event.  The pledges have been tabulated and the money has been counted.  A donation was made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in the amount of $3,913.00.  Thank you to all families that contributed.  Students will receive their prizes the week after March Break.

Pancake Tuesday

Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. The liturgical fasting emphasized eating plainer food and refraining from food that would give pleasure: in many cultures, this means no meat, dairy products, or eggs.

The Holy Season of Lent

On Wednesday at 9:30am, we will begin the Lenten season with a Liturgy of the Word prepared by Mrs. Mastrogiacomo’s and Mrs. Babic’s Grade 3 classes.  At the Ash Wednesday Liturgy, all students and staff will receive ashes.  Parents are welcome to attend.  The forty day period of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday and continues until Easter Sunday, is typically marked by fasting, prayer ...
