October Update

Our Healthy Schools Committee would like to offer the You’re the Chef program to students and we are looking for parents who are interested in becoming trained volunteers.  You’re the Chef is a hands-on cooking program that develops the skills and confidence for Grade 5, 6, 7 & 8 students to prepare healthy and tasty recipes emphasizing vegetables and fruit.  A typical program runs after school once a week for four or five weeks.  By the end of the You’re the Chef program, students will be able to practice safe food-handling and basic kitchen safety, prepare healthy recipes, understand Canada’s Food Guide and learn different ways to include vegetables and fruit in meals and snacks.  The volunteers training session will be held at Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning on Monday, October 24th OR Wednesday, October 26th.  Volunteers attend only one training session.  If you are interested in volunteering to participate in the You’re the Chef program at OLA, please contact the school by Wednesday.

Thank you very much for your generosity.  Over the past few weeks, we collected $833.65 for the Terry Fox Cancer Research Foundation.  We also collected $487.00 to help support the relief efforts of earthquake victims in Italy.  Donations will be forwarded to the Archdiocese of Toronto.

On Friday, we said goodbye to our part time secretary Mrs. Charlesworth. Mrs. Charlesworth accepted a full time position at St. Jerome School in Aurora.  We wish her all the best.  I will let you know who our new secretary is once the position has been filled.

A reminder to parents of students in Grade 2 who will be receiving their First Holy Communion and Reconciliation that there is a parent meeting at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church on Tuesday, October 18th following the 7:30pm mass.

Please join us at our Catholic School Council meeting on Wednesday, October 19th at 7pm in the library.
