Our first week of the school year at OLA was very successful.

I’m happy to report that first day jitters are gone and students have adjusted well to their new classes.  It was so great to see many parents throughout the week and we enjoyed meeting new students along with our Junior Kindergarten students. They did great!  I hope your child has shared some positive reflections from his/her first week at school.  We look forward to building our partnerships with your family.  Your child’s teachers and I can help address questions or concerns that may arise throughout the year.

You are kindly reminded to ensure that all forms sent home on the first day of school are returned to teachers as soon as possible.  All students must return the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Form, Lunch Permission Form, Walking Permission Form and the Agenda Form with $6.00.  If you require another copy of any of these forms, please visit our school website at www.ola@ycdsb.ca and click on the Forms tab.  The calendar on our website is updated regularly for your convenience.  This week, we will send home an emergency contact information sheet that needs to be updated for this school year.  While this is a lot of information and a lot of forms to manage in the first few weeks, they are all important for you and your family to understand.

As we begin the second week of school, many initiatives and programs will begin.  Our OLA All Stars Cross Country Running Team (Grade 4-8 students) will begin practicing this week.  Permission forms were sent home on Friday.  Our Luke 4:18 Committee will be meeting to organize our first Toonie drive for the victims of the earthquake in Italy.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated.  Our Grade 4 students will prepare to write the PACE test  and our Intermediate students will soon have their Student Government elections.  Our first civiies day will take place on Friday, September 16th.  This month, all classes will focus on the Catholic Virtue of “COURAGE”.   We encourage all of our students to demonstrate courage as they take responsibility for reaching their full potential, for facing challenges, fears and difficulties with fortitude and for standing up for what they know is right and just!

We are in need of a lunchtime supervisor. If you are interested in the permanent position for the year or if you are interested in joining our supply lunchtime supervisor list, please contact the main office as soon as possible.

I’m delighted with the great start to the school year and I look forward to continued success!
