World Down Syndrome Day will be celebrated at OLA on 3-21

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 marks the 12th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day.

Each year the voice of people with Down Syndrome, and those who live and work with them, grows louder. March 21 is the annual World Down Syndrome Day, or WDSD. The day was chosen to recognize that a person with Down Syndrome — a genetic, chromosomal condition — has three copies of the 21st chromosome instead of two. Down Syndrome Day is meant to help raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is. Cameron, in Grade 5 will be visiting all classes to share with students what it means to have Down Syndrome, and how people with Down Syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities. Cameron is featured in a special video and students will have an opportunity to view it.

All staff and students are encouraged to “Rock their Socks”.  It’s easy enough to participate, just stick your hand in your sock drawer and see what comes out. Bright and colourful socks, striped, mismatched, long – just as long as you’re making a statement. Everyone is encouraged to bring in a Toonie to support people with Down Syndrome.  Thank you in advance for your participation.
